CULTURAL BACKGROUND:
In Ghana this smock is popularly known as the Batakari or Fugu. In the Western world, known as a Dashiki and originates mainly in the Northern Region of Ghana. Traditionally it has been clothing worn by Royalty, particularly Kings and Queens from this region but was also the attire of Generals who led armies.
It has also been a trademark of spiritually gifted people whereby often, talismans or amulets are included on them for protection and has also been a symbol of high status and Authority in society!
